Bryan Ohio Motorcyclist In Serious Condition After Accident In Hamilton

S.R. 1 motorcycle accident provided by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department

HAMILTON - A Bryan, Ohio man is in serious condition following a motorcycle accident on Sunday, April 28.

The Steuben County Sheriff's Department stated just before 3 p.m. deputies responded to the area of State Road 1 and Hamilton Lake Lane 101 near Clark's lading on the report of a motorcycle accident.

Upon arrival deputies discovered a male rider lying adjacent to his motorcycle with what appeared to be a severe head wound.

The man was identified as Steven Hartsock, 60, of Bryan, Ohio.

Hartsock was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

He was flown by Parkview Samaritan helicopter to an undisclosed hospital in Fort Wayne and was listed in serious condition.

A preliminary investigation determined Hartsock was traveling northbound on S.R. 1 at what was described as an unsafe rate-of-speed.

He failed to navigate a curve in the roadway near the intersection of S.R. 1 and Hamilton Lake Lane.

Hartsock laid his bike down on the roadway causing it to slide off of the west side of S.R. 1 and overturned.

He was thrown from his bike during the accident where he suffered a severe head injury.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident which remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department.

Assisting the Steuben County Sheriff's Department at the scene were the Steuben County EMS, the Hamilton Fire Department, the Hamilton Police Department, and the Angola City Police Department.
