CENTREVILLE – The suspect arrested in connection with a March incident east of Sturgis has been arraigned.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor David Marvin and St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman held a joint press conference Friday afternoon to update the community on this crime.
On March 20, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives were called to the Sweet Lake Mobile Home Park on a report of a home invasion. During the investigation, it was determined that a man broke into a home between 12 AM and 5 AM, and sexually assaulted two girls under the age of 13.
Bingaman says investigators determined a person of interest. Authorities located the man and while waiting to take him into custody for questioning, he fled the area. The Sheriff’s Office worked relentlessly to track the suspect and finally located him in Fort Wayne. They determined where he was at and set up a surveillance operation and were able to arrest the man.
Bingaman says the 26 year old suspect was brought back to Michigan and arraigned Friday afternoon.
Bingaman shares more about the suspect.
Bingaman thanked all of the law enforcement agencies that helped with the location and arrest of Hernandez-Ruiz. He especially thanked the Sturgis Department Of Public Safety and the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Hernandez-Ruiz is scheduled to have his next court date on April 30.
