By: Sheila McCrea - Sunday, November 7, 2021

FREMONT, IN – A man on a motorcycle was sent to the hospital with critical injuries following a serious crash with a deer.

The Indiana State Police say it happened on Friday night at around 9:15 p.m. on North Fremont Road, just south of County Road 800 North in Steuben County.

A preliminary investigation by the ISP indicates that 44-year-old Johnathan Annis of Montgomery, Michigan was riding his 1997 Harley Davison southbound in the 7800 block of North Fremont Road when a deer ran into the path of the Harley Davidson. Annis was not able to avoid the deer and collided with it.

The collision caused Annis to lose control of the Harley Davidson and become separated from the motorcycle. Annis was airlifted from the scene and flown to the hospital with critical, and potentially life-threatening, injuries.

Annis was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in this crash.

UPDATE: A family member shared with WLKI that Annis was headed to Fedex Freight to work at the time of the accident. The family member said He suffered brain damage, brain bleeding, and multiple skull fractures. He was unconscious and never woke up. Doctors declared him braindead Saturday at around noon.

Family members ask that the public please remember he is someone's father, someone's husband, someone's grandpa and they would like to not see negative comments while they are grieving.
