Man Accused Of Killing Utah Police Officer Linked To Garrett

UTAH COUNTY, UTAH - A man with a last known address in DeKalb County is being accused of running down a Utah police officer.

The Associated Press stated Michael Aaron Jayne, 42, has aggravated murder charges filed against him after intentionally killing a police officer during a traffic stop.

Jayne is being charged with nine felony charges, including two counts of attempted aggravated murder for allegedly trying to run over a Utah Highway Patrol trooper and a woman who Jayne is charged with kidnapping.

Other charges allege Jayne stole other vehicles and broke into a house while fleeing officers following the May 5 traffic stop.

An aggravated murder conviction in Utah carries a penalty of at least 25 years in prison, up to life, or the death penalty.

The probable cause affidavit lists Jayne’s last known address to be in Garrett, but WANE.COM states there are no DeKalb County birth records for anyone born around the same time with last name Jayne.

They also said the Garrett Police Department said there is no sign of him committing crimes in the city in 24 years.

There are also no properties owned in DeKalb County by someone with the last name Jayne.
