Steuben County Commissioners Seek Gale Street Vacation
Tuesday, October 8, 2019

The Angola Common Council heard a presentation from Steuben County Commissioners in front of a packed house in the Council Chambers in regards to the Court House renovation project on Monday evening.

Steuben County Commissioners and Judges presented their plan to vacate Gale Street in downtown Angola to make way for an addition and renovation to the Steuben County Courthouse. Council members could not vote on the matter but made their position clear that if a vote were to take place that it would not pass. Board members were originally on board with the idea until swayed by several of their
constituents. The Commissioners will move forward with plan B to renovate the court house due to space, safety and handicap compliance issues with the building. Several community members gave public comment on the matter.

The Council also passed an ordinance to move a three-way stop sign to Stony Ridge Drive instead of Redding lane.

The Steuben Commissioners will notify the public of their next planning meeting for the Court House renovation project.
