Angola Man Suffers Medical Emergency Leading To Multi-State Pursuit

PAULDING COUNTY, OHIO - An Angola man suffering from a suspected medical emergency led the Angola City Police Department on a multi-state chase.

A release from the Angola City Police said Officer Max Essman attempted to stop a passenger vehicle traveling on S. Wayne Street without headlights.

Initially the vehicle slowed to stop, but then continued at a slow rate of speed eventually speeding up to 50 mph southbound on S. Wayne St.

Officer Essman initiated his siren and advised dispatch he was in a pursuit for a vehicle failing to yield.

Other officers and agencies joined the pursuit and utilized stop sticks.

The pursuit continued into Dekalb County and then into Ohio where Ohio State Police took over.

APD Officers followed the pursuit to it’s end in Paulding County, Ohio.

The driver was identified as Eddy Nelson, 78, of Angola.

Officers stated Nelson may be been suffering from a medical condition or suffering from symptoms of dementia.

Ohio State Police contacted an ambulance for Nelson at the end of the pursuit.

Angola City Police officers contacted the family of Nelson and the department declined to file any charges in Indiana.
