GARRETT - A DeKalb County man let authorities on a police chase and was apprehended by DeKalb County K9 Unit Rico.
On Thursday, April 25 DeKalb County Detective Mathew Haber observed who he knew to be Joshua James Hardy operating a vehicle in the city of Garrett.
Detective Haber had prior knowledge that Hardy’s driver’s license was suspended and knew him to have an arrest warrant for unlawfully carrying a handgun.
He attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Hardy’s vehicle, but Hardy failed to stop.
Hardy sped up and began disregarding traffic laws. He then exited his vehicle while it was still moving and fled from the scene.
Hardy’s vehicle rolled into a nearby building and came to a stop.
Detective Haber deployed his canine partner, RICO.
K9 RICO pursued and apprehended Hardy and he was then taken into custody without further incident.
Hardy was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained by the canine.
He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail on a warrant for unlawful carrying of a handgun.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Auburn Police Department, the Garrett Police Department and Parkview EMS.
