PLEASANT LAKE - The Angola Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office are holding self-defense classes for females ages 12 and up.

The R.A.D., which stands for Rape Aggression Defense, is a course for women, children, and seniors to learn self-defense skills if physically confronted.

The courses will be held on April 8, April 9, and April 10 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. at Pleasant Lake Elementary School located off of Main St.

The R.A.D. course includes one night of lecture, two nights of practicing techniques, and as part of the last night there is simulation.

R.A.D. Systems is the country’s largest and fastest growing self-defense program for women, children, and seniors. They offer no nonsense, practical techniques of defense.

R.A.D. is NOT a martial arts program. 90% of self-defense is
awareness and this program will teach risk awareness, prevention, reduction, and avoidance, while progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training.

The program is free of charge; however, a $20 deposit will be collected at the time of registration, and returned to all participants that complete all 3 nights of the program.

This program will be a basic program. As a refresher, students who have already completed the three-night course are encouraged to attend the second and third nights of the program.

R.A.D. was established in 1989, and is an International network of certified Instructors. The instructors believe self-defense should be easy to learn, easy to retain, and relatively easy to use if physically confronted.

Steuben County RAD would like to thank all of the community’s foundations, and corporate sponsors that have supported the RAD program for women.

To register contact Deputy Reagan Stevenson at Steuben County Sheriff’s Office at 260-668-1000 ext. 5268, Assistant Chief Darrin Taylor at Angola Police Department at 260-665-2121, or First Sergeant D. Bradley Kline at Steuben County Sheriff’s Office 260-668-1000 ext. 5000
