ANGOLA - The mayor of Angola, Dave Martin, released a statement via email to remind local residents to explore Steuben County.

Angola, a place you can be proud to call home.

At the heart of our city is our beautiful downtown, where the first person you will see is Lady Columbia. She stands tall atop our impressive soldiers’ monument waiting to greet you as you enter. In our downtown, you will also find unique shops, restaurants, nightlife and more. This is where our community comes together to celebrate Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Santa coming to town. We have an annual car show, summer art festival, and all year long we display beautiful sculptures created by artists near and far. Downtown truly is the central location of our vibrant community.

Close to our downtown, you will find several beautiful parks managed by our highly active Angola City Park’s Department. There are walking trails, playgrounds, ball diamonds and an incredible timber framed pavilion that overlooks a challenging but fun frisbee golf course. You will also find a stage where we host several free concerts throughout the Summer. There is something in our parks for all ages.

Also, in the heart of our community is Cameron Memorial Hospital. An award-winning, civic minded hospital that continues to grow while giving quality care and finding new ways to serve Angola and its surrounding communities.

Angola is home to the beautiful main campus of Trine University. The University, with its rich history and cultural diversity, attracts thousands of young college students to our community every year. Trine University provides graduate and postgraduates degrees along with collegiate sports. They also feature an amazing performing arts venue that hosts concerts and shows throughout the year.

Angola is also the home of Steuben County’s Metropolitan School District. Our district features four elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. Providing our youth with great educational opportunities and an array of extracurricular activities to keep your family involved all year long.

Angola also boasts a diverse industrial manufacturing base with a talented and skilled workforce. These businesses along with numerous service organizations provide great employment opportunities. Our location being in close proximity to three major cities, Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis, opens the door for continued growth and advancement.

Angola is also known as the home to 101 lakes throughout our area. If you want to wet a fishing line on a small quiet lake, go sailing in the breeze, or enjoy a fun-filled day of water sports, our county has you covered! Speaking of lakes, we are also home to Pokagon State Park, one of the best parks in Indiana. Pokagon boarders Lake James, Indiana’s fourth largest natural lake in the state. From springtime wildflowers, summers at the beach, miles of colorful fall walking trails or winter tobogganing and cross-country skiing, Pokagon has it all!

For these reasons and so many more, I am proud to call Angola my home.
