WATERLOO, IN – Authorities in Dekalb County say the wind was to blame for a crash on I-69.

On Monday, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said Justin C. O’Reilly, age 36, was traveling south on I-69 when a strong gust of wind blew his trailer which was unloaded. The wind gust caused him to strike a guard rail on the east side of the roadway.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. near the 338-mile marker of I-69 in DeKalb County.

The 2012 Peterbuilt reportedly spun around and struck the trailer and then came to a rest on the west side of the roadway. The rig blocked the driving lane for other motorist in the area.

O’Reilly complained of neck and shoulder pain and was transported by EMS to a local hospital.

Southbound traffic resumed following cleanup.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Waterloo Fire Department, Auburn Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Riverside Towing, and Parkview EMS.
