LAGRANGE, IN - Multiple crews in LaGrange County spent time Friday morning cleaning up an accident scene involving a propane truck.

The accident happened at around 7:50 AM in the area of 2471 South State Road 3.

LaGrange County Emergency Management responded to the scene. Upon arrival, an Amerigas truck was found on its side. It was determined that there was not an active leak from the tank.

EMA Director Bill Morr said “It was not possible to offload the propane while it was on its side.”

Due to the danger that was possible when moving the truck, the decision was made to contact all residences within a half mile radius of the scene and ask them to evacuate the area.

Using the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office drone, Morr said it was determined that there were 16 homes in the radius. LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office Deputies attempted contact at all homes.

Bill’s Professional Towing was called to the scene to move the truck back to its upright position. The truck was set upright without further incident.

Amerigas representatives confirmed that there was no damage to valves and there was no leaking of propane. Once they made confirmation, contact was made with the 16 residences again to inform them that the situation was safe.

More said the collaboration between the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office, Stroh Fire Department, LaGrange County Emergency Management, and all other departments that assisted helped to keep the community safe during a potential very dangerous situation.

Agencies that were on scene included the LaGrange County Emergency Management, LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office, Stroh Fire Department, Mongo Fire Department, Parkview EMS, INDOT, LaGrange County Highway Department, and Bill’s Professional Towing.
