Teen Girl Escapes Residential Fire
Thursday, February 23, 2023

HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI — A teen girl narrowly escaped from a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Hillsdale County’s rural Jefferson Township.

An off-duty firefighter was reportedly traveling to work at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when he noticed heavy black smoke coming from the west of Pioneer Road. He drove toward the smoke to see what it was and found a house fully engulfed in flames.

The teenaged girl, whose identity was not released by authorities, had already escaped from the home and was seated in a good samaritan’s pickup truck to stay warm.

Flames had consumed the back half of the house and were quickly spreading through the rest of the house while high winds contributed to the fire spreading down through the backyard and into an adjacent property.

The fire was brought under control at around 4 p.m.
