(FORT WAYNE) - Two Allen County Republican primary races may not be over yet.
Candidates in both the Indiana Senate District 15 race and the Allen County Commissioner District 3 race have filed recount requests following narrow losses in the May 5 primary election.
Darren Vogt, who challenged incumbent State Sen. Liz Brown, announced Tuesday that he has filed both a recount and election contest after certified results showed Brown winning by just 14 votes.
The Allen County Election Board certified the race on May 15 with Brown receiving 5,241 votes to Vogt's 5,227.
Vogt said the filing is intended to ensure every legal vote is counted and raised questions about the vote-counting process.
Brown defended the election process and said she remains confident the certified result will stand following a recount.
A second recount request has been filed in the Republican primary for Allen County Commissioner District 3.
Certified results showed Paul Moss defeating Ewelina Connolly by 65 votes, 10,623 to 10,558.
Connolly's campaign said technical issues occurred during Allen County's first election using vote centers and said a recount would help ensure all votes were accurately counted.
Moss said voters selected him as the Republican nominee and expressed confidence the certified outcome will be upheld.
Candidates had until noon Tuesday to file recount petitions. Republican county party chairs in the affected districts now have until noon Friday, May 22, to formally request the recounts.
A separate recount request has also been filed in northwest Indiana, where Paula Copenhaver is seeking a recount after certified results showed her trailing incumbent State Sen. Spencer Deery by three votes.
