(ANGOLA) - Trine University's Overwatch esports team has qualified for the first ECAC National Founders Invitational, a national four-team championship event set for May 15 through 17 in San Antonio, Texas.

Selections were based on combined performance across the fall and spring Division I seasons, with only the top four programs in each title advancing.

Trine Esports Director Jeremy Goossens says the invitational effectively serves as a full academic year Final Four.

The Thunder earned the spot out of a field that included hundreds of colleges competing through ECAC, including more than 140 Overwatch teams this spring alone.

The event will be held at the Boeing Center at Tech Port, one of the nation's premier esports venues.

Trine's Overwatch team finished fourth in the nation last fall and now gets a chance to compete for the ECAC National Division I season title.
