(COLDWATER) - Haitian immigrants with Temporary Protected Status can keep working legally for two more weeks. Their work permits were set to expire July 10. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services extended them through July 24 just hours before that deadline.

The extension applies to Haitian TPS holders in Coldwater and across the country.

Temporary Protected Status allows immigrants from countries facing war, natural disasters or other dangerous conditions to remain and work legally in the United States for a limited time.

The Trump administration is seeking to end those protections for Haitian immigrants. A June 25 U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowed that effort to move forward while legal challenges continue.

The two-week extension prevents immediate job losses for Haitian workers and gives employers more time to prepare. It does not answer what will happen after July 24.
