(STEUBEN & NOBLE COUNTIES) - Anglers in Steuben and Noble Counties can look forward to stronger walleye fishing in the years ahead. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has stocked fall fingerling walleye--each about 5 to 8 inches long--into several local lakes.

In Steuben County, stocking took place at Big Turkey Lake, Crooked Lake, and Clear Lake. In Noble County, the DNR released walleye into Loon Lake, Sylvan Lake, Pretty Lake, and Wall Lake. The fish were raised at the Fawn River State Fish Hatchery and will grow to roughly 16 inches in three to four years.

DNR fisheries biologist Tom Bacula says the young walleyes will need time to reach legal size, but the stocking will pay off for area anglers down the road.
