(ANGOLA) - The Pokagon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a public reading of the Declaration of Independence Wednesday evening in Commons Park.

The reading will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. at the Roman Beer Stage.

The event marks 250 years since the text of the Declaration of Independence began being shared publicly with colonists on July 8, 1776.

Although Independence Day is celebrated on July 4, many colonists had not heard the actual words of the Declaration until it was read aloud in towns across the colonies on July 8.

The event is free and open to the public.

Angola Mayor Dave Martin is also scheduled to present a proclamation.

Patriotic music will be featured, and those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs.
