(ANGOLA) - The Steuben County community is saying goodbye today to a man who spent decades safely carrying its children, athletes, and neighbors. Longtime MSD of Steuben County bus driver Steve Anstett is being laid to rest following his passing on November 29.
Anstett drove school bus in Angola for 39 years, famously giving students the cherished "trip around the mound" after big moments and team victories. Many former students remember those rides as a highlight of their school days.
Beyond the bus garage, Anstett devoted more than 50 years to serving Steuben Township and Pleasant Lake as a firefighter, beginning in 1972 as a junior firefighter.
Following today's funeral at Community Church in Pleasant Lake, Anstett will be honored with one last trip around the mound at about 12:30, celebrating both a treasured tradition and the man behind it.
