(ANGOLA) - A local college student is facing a felony sexual battery charge after police found explicit photos of a sleeping woman on his cell phone.

Reporter Lynn Thompson of the Herald Republican writes that 20-year-old Tyler Torbeson of Hebron was arrested Thursday at the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.

Thompson reports the case began March 17, when Angola Police started an investigation after a female reported Torbeson had taken explicit photos and videos of her body parts without consent while she was sleeping. She reported it happened multiple times during their relationship.

Court records cited by the Herald Republican say probable cause came from a screenshot of a text message dated November 30, 2025. In the message, Torbeson wrote, in part, "I cannot resist my urges. I wish I never had these urges in the first place. I'm sorry for all of the terrible things I have done to you."

Police obtained a search warrant for Torbeson's cell phone and turned it over to the Indiana State Police Digital Forensics Unit.

On May 23, investigators found multiple images of the victim in a password-protected Snapchat file labeled "My Eyes Only."

Investigators also found explicit videos of a second female who has not been identified.

Torbeson is charged with Level 6 felony sexual battery. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of two-and-a-half years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
