(LAGRANGE) - The LaGrange County Youth Advocacy Collaborative is encouraging residents to focus on road safety as travel increases during the summer months. The News Sun reports the collaborative, working with the LaGrange County Health Department, is reminding motorists, buggy operators, cyclists and pedestrians to use extra caution on county roadways.
Officials note that LaGrange County's roads are shared by motorists, horse-drawn buggies, farm equipment, bicyclists and pedestrians. They say the mix of transportation methods creates unique challenges that require awareness, patience and mutual respect.
The collaborative is encouraging drivers to avoid distractions, slow down when approaching horse-drawn buggies and farm equipment, allow adequate space when passing slower-moving vehicles, and practice patience and courtesy on the road.
Officials are also urging parents and guardians to talk with young drivers about safe driving habits.
