(LANSING) - Michigan residents can expect to pay more for energy this summer, according to the Michigan Public Service Commission's 2026 Summer Energy Appraisal.

The report cites the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the ongoing war with Iran and rising gasoline prices as key factors driving higher energy costs.

The appraisal also found that electricity prices in Michigan are averaging 4.6 percent higher than they were a year ago.

Despite the higher costs, the report does not project any major electricity supply shortages during the summer months.

The Michigan Public Service Commission releases seasonal energy appraisals to assess expected energy supply and demand conditions and to identify potential concerns for consumers and utilities.
