SHOWDOWN AT THE STATEHOUSE: INDIANA HOUSE MOVES ON REDISTRICTING AS SENATE RESISTS

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana lawmakers are gearing up for a major political showdown over redrawing the state's congressional map.

The Republican-controlled House is expected to push forward Monday with a redistricting plan that would give the GOP a 9-0 sweep of Indiana's U.S. House seats -- a move strongly encouraged by former President Donald Trump. But the plan faces an uncertain future in the Senate. Republicans control that chamber as well, but many senators have resisted redistricting for months. Senate leaders had previously refused to even meet, but have now agreed to return on December 8th.

No official map has been released yet, and it's unclear whether Senate Republicans have the votes to pass one.

President Trump has publicly criticized GOP senators who oppose the effort and threatened to back primary challengers. Several lawmakers -- on both sides of the issue -- have also faced threats and swatting hoaxes. House Speaker Todd Huston says all legislative business is on the table when lawmakers reconvene Monday, including a new congressional map. Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray says the chamber will make a final decision this month, acknowledging the redistricting fight has caused "strife" across the state.
