(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana National Guard members with military police training will be able to assist local law enforcement during emergencies under one of two new laws signed by Governor Mike Braun.

House Enrolled Act 1343 allows qualified Guard members called to state active duty to support law enforcement operations after completing both military police training and Indiana-specific law enforcement instruction.

The law also updates the Military Family Relief Fund, removes the eight-year limit on the National Guard tuition supplement grant and creates the Indiana Civilian Cyber Corps, a volunteer group that can assist the state during cybersecurity incidents.

Braun also signed House Enrolled Act 1268, a measure designed to improve coordination among state agencies and organizations involved in defense-related projects and military development efforts.

The law expands membership on the Indiana Defense Task Force, requires annual identification of defense spending priorities and shifts oversight of Indiana's federal Unmanned Aircraft System Test Site program to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and an operating partner.

State officials say the changes are intended to improve emergency preparedness, strengthen Indiana's military partnerships and support growth in defense, aviation and technology industries.
