(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana lawmakers are already looking ahead to the 2027 legislative session after assigning topics for study during the interim months.

The Indiana General Assembly's Legislative Council met Tuesday to identify issues lawmakers will research and discuss before returning to the Statehouse next year.

Topics selected for study include child safety, childcare funding, workforce programs and property tax assessments.

House Speaker Todd Huston said the study committees allow lawmakers to review policy ideas, hear from Hoosiers and prepare for future legislation.

Additional committee topics include criminal justice trends, workers compensation issues, court funding, public health matters and transportation issues.

Education-related discussions will also include name, image and likeness rights for high school student-athletes along with grants awarded through Indiana's Student Learning Recovery Grant Program.

Lawmakers are expected to assign members to the committees in the coming weeks, with meetings scheduled through the summer and fall ahead of the 2027 session.
