(FORT WAYNE) - A bald eagle chick is back with its parents after a nest collapse prompted a rescue effort.
Volunteers with Soarin' Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation responded after a rain-soaked nest fell, killing one eaglet and leaving another alive on the ground.
A rescue team located the surviving chick and transported it for evaluation. The eaglet was estimated to be about four weeks old.
Volunteers determined the chick was healthy and built a replacement nest at the site.
The eaglet was returned to its parents within 24 hours.
Officials say the quick response and cooperation from the property owner helped prevent the bird from being killed by predators.
