(COLDWATER) - A second psychiatric evaluation is being requested in the case against McCain Snyder, who faces multiple charges including attempted murder.

According to the Coldwater Daily Reporter, Snyder is accused of striking David Sluyter, 81, and Jill Sluyter, 77, with his truck on June 10, 2024.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor Nora Geiger is seeking a second opinion on Snyder's mental state at the time of the incident. A prior evaluation found Snyder not criminally responsible.

Branch County Probate Judge Kirk Kashian has authorized the additional evaluation.

If both evaluations reach the same conclusion, the defense is expected to seek a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict. If they differ, the case could move to trial.
