Michigan Seeks To Pause Lawsuit Over 24% Marijuana Tax

(LANSING) - The State of Michigan is asking the Michigan Supreme Court to halt legal proceedings over its new 24% wholesale marijuana tax.

State officials want the court to pause the case by May 1 as they seek to have the lawsuit dismissed by September.

The dispute comes from lawsuits filed by the Michigan Cannabis Industry Association and Holistic Research Group.

Those groups argue the tax is unconstitutional, saying it changes a voter-approved marijuana law without the required three-quarters approval from both the state House and Senate.

The state is asking for the pause while the Supreme Court decides whether it will take up the appeal.
