(INDIANAPOLIS) - A judge has lifted an order that temporarily blocked absentee ballots from being mailed in a contested Indiana Senate primary.

The Indiana Capital Chronicle reports Putnam County Superior Court Judge Charles Bridges ruled Friday that county clerks in Vigo, Clay, and Sullivan counties must proceed with mailing ballots, saying any delay would violate federal law.

The dispute centers on a Republican primary race in Senate District 38, where questions have been raised about the eligibility of candidate Alexandra Wilson due to a past conviction.

An earlier order had paused ballot distribution, but Bridges said courts cannot prevent election officials from carrying out their constitutional duties.

The case has drawn attention because of its potential impact on the race, which includes a Trump-endorsed challenger.

A hearing is scheduled this week as the legal challenge continues.
