(ANGOLA) - A Michigan woman accused of dragging a police officer and leading a high-speed chase is back in Steuben County to face charges. The Herald Republican reports that Journey M. Buchanan, 28, of Kalamazoo, was returned to Angola Wednesday on multiple felony charges, including battery on a public safety officer, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, and theft.

Court documents say the case stems from an October 2024 incident at the Meijer store on North Wayne Street, where Buchanan and others allegedly stole more than $1,700 worth of liquor.

Police say Buchanan jumped into a vehicle and took off, dragging an officer several feet before fleeing. Investigators say she then led officers on a chase topping 100 miles per hour, swerving into oncoming traffic and running a red light before being taken into custody.

She had previously been extradited to Michigan on separate charges before being returned to Steuben County.

If convicted, Buchanan could face up to 17 and a half years in prison.
