(ANGOLA) - A Trine University fundraising event has raised a record amount for breast cancer research.
The Theta Phi Alpha sorority raised $52,876 through its annual Big Man on Campus pageant held February 21. The money benefits the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
Organizers say this year's total is the highest in the event's history, surpassing the previous record of just over $52,000.
Awards are presented to contestants based on performance and fundraising totals. Gavin Kruise, a finance major from Milan, Michigan, won the BMOC title. Jonathan Ibarra, a civil engineering major from Athens, Michigan representing Sigma Phi Delta, received the Mr. Pink Ribbon fundraising award.
Organizers say the event is supported by a year of planning and fundraising activities, along with strong support from students and the community.
