(LAKE COUNTY) - State and local officials toured tornado damage in northwest Indiana as recovery efforts continue following this week's severe storms.

Photos released from the scene show officials, including members of the Indiana State Police, surveying large piles of downed trees and debris left behind by the storm. Several trees were snapped or uprooted, leaving significant damage across parts of the area.

Authorities have been assessing the destruction and coordinating response efforts as crews continue clearing debris and restoring services.

The storms earlier this week caused extensive damage in several communities across northwest Indiana, including Lake Village, where homes were destroyed and residents were forced to begin cleanup and recovery efforts.

Officials say damage assessments are ongoing as the region works to recover from the powerful tornadoes that moved through the area.
