(ANGOLA) - Discussions about creating a joint fire protection territory between the City of Angola and Pleasant Township have been suspended.
Pleasant Township officials announced they are pausing discussions with the city after reviewing information and listening to feedback from residents. Township leaders say they want more time to evaluate the proposal and consider concerns raised by the public.
Township officials say they remain committed to supporting public safety in the community and will continue researching options that could help the Angola Fire Department fund additional firefighters.
Meanwhile, the City of Angola also confirmed it is withdrawing from the ongoing discussions about the proposed fire protection territory. As a result, the public meeting previously scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, has been canceled, according to a statement released by the city.
The proposed territory would have replaced Pleasant Township's current fire protection contract with the City of Angola with a jointly governed fire territory. The idea had drawn both support and criticism from residents, particularly over concerns about potentially high tax increases for Pleasant Township.
Township officials say they will continue reviewing possible solutions and will keep residents informed as discussions about future fire protection options continue.
