(KENDALLVILLE) - Six people were hospitalized Monday afternoon following a head-on collision on State Road 3 just north of Airport Road in Noble County.

Sheriff's deputies say the crash happened around 3:01 p.m. when a southbound 2013 Chevy Equinox driven by 55-year-old Jamie Gayheart of LaGrange crossed the center line for an unknown reason and struck a northbound 2014 Chevy Cruze head-on.

Gayheart was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center with facial injuries. A passenger in the Equinox, 29-year-old Lacey McDonald of LaGrange, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown by helicopter to the hospital with facial injuries.

Two children in the Equinox, ages 2 years and 4 months, were transported by ambulance with minor cuts.

The driver of the Cruze, 21-year-old Kyler Gause of Kendallville, and a passenger, 19-year-old Meyah Kilgore of Wolcottville, were also taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities say none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. The crash remains under investigation by the Noble County Sheriff's Department.
