(COLDWATER TOWNSHIP) - A 60-year-old Coldwater man died Thursday afternoon after the electric scooter he was riding was struck by a car in Coldwater Township.
The Branch County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded around 12:45 p.m. Feb. 19 to N. Union City Road near Narrows Road for a reported crash.
Preliminary findings indicate the man was traveling south on an electric scooter when he was hit by a passenger vehicle driven by an 89-year-old Coldwater resident. First responders from Life Care Ambulance and the Coldwater Fire Department attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the scooter rider died from his injuries.
The driver and a passenger in the car were not injured.
Officials say weather conditions at the time may have contributed to the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Branch County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Michigan State Police Reconstruction Unit, Branch County Central Dispatch, and the Branch County Road Commission.
