(INDIANAPOLIS) - With just days remaining before the ballot is set, Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales is urging candidates to file their paperwork now and not wait until the last minute.

The deadline to file a declaration of candidacy is Friday, February 6, at noon. Under Indiana law, election officials cannot accept filings after that time.

"Time is running out for Hoosiers who want to place their name on the ballot," Morales said. "Filing early helps avoid last-minute problems and ensures candidates are fully prepared for the upcoming election."

The Secretary of State's Office is continuing to assist candidates through the process and encourages anyone planning to run to carefully review filing requirements ahead of the deadline. A detailed candidate guide is available online through the state elections website.

Candidates for U.S. House, state legislative offices, and judicial positions, including county prosecutors, must file directly with the Indiana Secretary of State. That office will accept filings weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through February 6, with the final cutoff at noon.

Candidates seeking non-judicial county offices, township positions, town offices, school board seats, precinct committeeman, or state convention delegate roles must file with the county clerk in the county where they live.
