Ohio Steel Companies Have an Advocate
Friday May 19, 2017 7:47pm

By: Tanner Holbrook

U-S Senator Sherrod Brown testified in front of the International Trade Commission today to rule in favor of Ohio steel producers. Brown says that these Ohio steel producers are being hurt by unfair trade practices like Japan, Taiwan, and Turkey, which 5 U-S companies filed petitions against in 20-15. According to a press release, companies like Nucor Steel, which has a facility in Marion, and Byer Steel in Cincinnati along with three other U-S companies filed the petition because the countries undersold rebar imports to U-S companies, which ultimately lowered the cost of U-S built rebar.

Brown said in his testimony that Steel companies in Ohio like Nucor in Marion and Byer Steel in Cincinnati aren’t looking for special treatment, but the opportunity to compete on a level playing field.
