The Steuben County Circuit Court handed down a 40 year sentence this week to an Angola man who stabbed his fiance's brother to death last April in Angola. Court reports say that 32-year-old Edwin Garcia was originally charged with murder and attempted murder but entered guilty pleas to lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter and attempted voluntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement.
Both counts are level 2 felony charges.
Garcia received his sentences for crimes he committed last spring for a stabbing incident that left his 30-year-old fiance Amber Abuja seriously injured and her 30-year-old brother Michael Abuja dead.
Garcia was given consecutive 20 year sentences on the both counts. The two original charges were dismissed by Steuben County prosecutors.
