First Federal Savings Bank of Angola recently approved a substantial financial pledge in the amount of $15,000 towards a monument project within the city to honor the memory of abolitionist Sonjourner Truth.

The goal is to erect the monument on Angola's Public Square to honor the abolitionist, who was not only that but an advocate for women's rights. One of her most famous speeches came on the steps of the Steuben County Courthouse porch in June of 1861.

If the project does get funded, the statue will be on the northwest side of the Steuben County Courtyard.
