Ohio Egg Farm Forced To Euthanize Millions Of Chickens
Friday, September 9, 2022
DEFIANCE, OH — An outbreak of bird flu that has led to the deaths of 43 million chickens and turkeys this year across the United States has been found at a giant egg-laying operation in Northwest Ohio.
The case was confirmed in Ohio’s Defiance County. It has affected roughly 3 million chickens, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The egg-laying farm has been mandated to euthanize all of its flock.
The outbreak contributed to a spike in egg and meat prices this summer. Another surge in prices could come back this fall.
