By: Sheila McCrea - Monday, August 16, 2021

KINDERHOOK, MI - A Coldwater woman was injured Sunday afternoon when a golf cart operated by a young child rolled over.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department said it was reported at 2:46 p.m. on Dragon Shores Drive and West Copeland Road in Kinderhook Township. In a news release issue by the department 33-year-old Heather Wheaton was identified as an injured passenger.

Wheaton was treated by Life Care Ambulance and Lakeland Fire Rescue. She was later taken to the emergency room at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.

Kinderhook Township has not passed an exemption to a state law banning unlicensed drivers from operating golf carts on public roads. Wheaton was cited for allowing her seven-year-old daughter to operate the golf cart.

There were two adults and three children on the golf cart at the time.

An adult male suffered minor injuries. None of the children were injured.
