Indiana May 2021 Unemployment Rate Up From April

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana had a slight increase in their unemployment rate from April to May.

Data released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the State's unemployment rate went up from 3.9 percent in April to an even 4 percent in May.

The Indiana labor force had a net increase of 6,370 over the previous month. This was a result of an increase of 3,292 unemployed residents, and an increase of 3,078 employed residents. Indiana's total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, stands at 3.34 million. That State's 63.2 percent labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 61.6 percent.

Indiana's May unemployment rate of 4 percent was better that the U.S. Unemployment rate of 5.8 percent. In May 2020, the Indiana unemployment rate was at 12 percent.
