Fewer Indiana High School Graduates Choosing to Pursue Education After the 12th Grade
By: Sheila McCrea - Friday, April 23, 2021

UNDATED - Fewer Indiana high school graduates are choosing to go to college or pursue education after the 12th grade.

According to a report from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, 59% of high school graduates from the class of 2019 went to college. That measure has been declining since 2015, but the numbers from 2019 show the sharpest year-to-year decline.

Researchers say the pandemic will likely influence the numbers from 2020, which haven't been tabulated yet.

The commission warned that failure to bolster the number of students advancing their educations would rob Indiana of a marketable and competent workforce while limiting upward mobility among those workers.
