Toddler Killed After Livestock Truck Backs Over Him

WOLCOTTVILLE, IN - A 15-month-old boy died Monday after a truck delivering livestock backed over him.

The incident took place shortly before noon at a farm near Wolcottville, IN. According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, some calves were being delivered to the farm.

The driver of the truck, identified as Michael Erik Norris, age 28 of Montpelier, Ohio was carrying the calves turned around in a driveway and pulled up beside a barn. After a short conversation between Norris and the child’s father, Richard Schrock, Norris reportedly backed the truck up.

Norris told police he checked his mirrors before doing so, and as he backed up he realized he hit something. Reports indicate he then stopped to check what he hit and that’s when he discovered the child, identified as Steven Schrock, who had been backed over lying on the ground.

The child was taken by helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital where he died from his injuries.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department said on Tuesday "at this time there are no charges being sought". Authorities also ask that everyone be respectful of the victim's family as they do not wish to be contacted.

This incident is indeed a tragic situations.

Assisting at the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department were Indiana Conservation Officers, Johnson Township Fire Department, Parkview LaGrange Ambulance, and Samaritan Helicopter Paramedic Crew.
