Trine (12-0, 3-0 MIAA) began the contest with a 15-3 scoring run that ended in a three-pointer by Williams to lead, 15-3, at the 14:38 mark of the first half. After five quick points by Olivet (0-13, 0-3 MIAA), a triple by Bowman and a layup by Jones extended the Trine lead back to double digits where it stayed for the majority of the game.

Leading by 10 points with 6:19 to go in the half, Trine outscored its opponent, 14-4, to grab a 20-point advantage for the first time in the game at the 4:17 mark following another three-pointer by Bowman for a score of 41-21. Nearing the end of the first half, the Thunder recorded a large lead of 21 points twice, including a halftime score of 48-27 as the result of a jumper by Bowman with seconds remaining before the break.

Olivet gained some ground in the second half and started out by outscoring Trine, 23-10, in the first six minutes of the period to cut the deficit to single figures, 58-50. A layup by Cox then started a 10-1 Trine run that put the Thunder out in front by a more comfortable 17-point margin, 68-51, nearing the midway point of the half.

The Comets looked to rally again as an ensuing eight-straight points made it a nine-point game, 68-59, with 10:20 remaining. Trine then took control with 13 unanswered points as part of a larger 20-2 run for a commanding 27-point lead, 88-61, with under five minutes on the clock.

The run was what the Thunder needed to seal the victory and went on to post their largest lead of the game with just over two minutes to go when junior Nate Carbaugh connected on a jumper that made it a 93-65 game. Carbaugh also netted the final points of the contest for both teams as the Thunder went on to claim the 95-72 final.
