The Trine University football team traveled to Albion, Mich. for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game against Albion College, but fell to the Britons, 24-14, at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.
Trine finished with 284 yards of total offense (96 rushing and 188 passing). Junior Dylan Dowling (Alexandria, Ind./Alexandria) led the ground game with 68 yards on 12 carries (5.7 yards per carry). Freshman quarterback Alex Price (Reading, Mich./Reading) was the team's second-leading rusher with 34 yards in 11 carries (3.1 ypc.) and had one touchdown.
Price also completed 10-of-16 passes for 119 yards to go along with one passing TD. Sophomore Jake Hill (Lizton, Ind./Tri-West) also saw playing time and completed seven-of-15 pass attempts for 69 yards.
Senior Seth Boggs (Sandusky, Ohio/Perkins) recorded his second 100-yard receiving game of the season with a game and career-high 121 yards on eight catches that included one TD reception.
Defensively, junior Keysean Amison (Sandusky, Ohio/Perkins) finished with a game and career-best 12 total tackles (nine solo and three assists) to lead Trine.
After receiving the game's opening kickoff, Albion (6-2, 3-2 MIAA) put together a drive that consisted of nine plays and went 80 yards to end in a 13-yard TD pass and resulted in an early 7-0 lead.
Trine (4-4, 1-4 MIAA) responded on its ensuing possession, and first of the game, by going 76 yards in 10 plays that ended in a four-yard TD run by Price with 7:13 left in the first quarter to even the game at 7-7.
The Thunder forced the Britons into a punt situation on their next drive following the Price score, but Albion got the ball right back thanks to a recovered fumble on the punt return that set the Britons up at the Trine 25-yard line. The Trine defense held strong and forced Albion into another fourth down scenario. This time, the Britons attempted a 42-yard field goal with just under a minute-and-a-half to go in the period that sailed wide left and kept the game tied at 7-7 after the first 15 minutes.
Early in the second quarter, an interception by Trine's Angel Sanchez (Valparaiso, Ind./Portage) with Albion in the red zone, spoiled the Briton's possible scoring attempt and eventually led to seven points for Trine after completing an eight-play, 76-yard drive that ended in a three-yard pass play from Price to Boggs to make it a 14-7 ball game with 10:35 to go in the half.
The final points of the half came on Albion's next drive with a 31-yard field goal at the 8:53 mark. Neither team tallied any more points the rest of the quarter as Trine lead, 14-10 at the break.
Near the midway point of the third quarter, Sanchez picked off his second Albion pass of the afternoon that gave Trine the ball at their own 19-yard line. The Thunder then drove to the Albion 15-yard line and were forced to attempt a 33-yard field goal, but the attempt was blocked by Albion who then returned it 72 yards for a Briton TD to take the lead, 17-14, heading into the fourth quarter.
The Trine defense gave the Thunder offense another opportunity early in the fourth quarter with the team's third interception of the day when sophomore Aaron Dean (Auburn, Ind./Eastside) stepped in front of another Albion pass in the endzone. The turnover led to no points for Trine, however, and the only points of the period came on Albion's ensuing drive that lasted 14 plays and went 67 yards with a 14-yard TD strike that sealed the victory for the Britons who went on to win by the final score of 24-14.
Trine will make its final road trip of the season next Saturday, Nov. 9 when it travels to Adrian, Mich. for a MIAA contest against Adrian College. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
