Ovid Township • Coldwater, MI

A man is facing several charges following an incident at an Ovid Township home.

Just after 6:30 AM Monday, a 59 year old man called 911 to report suspicious activity outside his home. While on the phone, the resident was confronted at a glass patio door by a lone suspect, who broke the glass and came into the house, and then assaulted the home owner.

The suspect went into the kitchen and got a glass of milk and a knife, which was used to threaten the resident.

Michigan State Police arrived, which caused the suspect to run away. Trooper Jeremy Miller and K-9 Trooper Dakota tracked the suspect through a swamp and wooded area and was able to locate him and arrest him. During the investigation, troopers also determined the suspect attempted to steal the resident’s vehicle before entering the house.

The suspect is being held in the Branch County Jail for home invasion, felonious assault, malicious destruction to a building and attempted auto theft. Troopers say the subject was on parole from St. Joseph County and had a valid parole violation warrant at the time of his arrest.
