Ligonier, IN

Noble County Prosecutor Eric Blackman advised that his office and the Ligonier Police Department are investigating a double homicide occurring Monday night in Ligonier.

According to a news release, shortly before 9 p.m. on Mopnday, March 5, Noble County Dispatch received a 911 call from a person reporting that someone had been shot at a location in the 200 block of Water Street in Ligonier. Upon the arrival of police and fire personnel, an adult male subject was found lying outside on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Upon entering the residence, police also located an adult female subject, also the victim of a gunshot wound. Both subjects were deceased.

Police were able to identify a witness at the scene and obtained information regarding a possible suspect and suspect vehicle information. This information was quickly dispatched and a short time later an officer with the LaGrange Police Department located a vehicle matching the description and attempted to stop it.

After a pursuit, the vehicle was stopped and the driver, identified as Michael Johnson of Fort Wayne, was arrested and taken to the Noble County Jail. Two other female persons of interest were also located in Kendallville and in Fort Wayne and taken into custody for questioning.

Due to the on-going nature of this investigation, no further information can be released at this time. “We will be seeking search warrants today, and hope to have the investigation to a point very soon when the case will be reviewed for formal charges,” said Prosecutor Blackman.

The Indiana State Police, the Noble County Sheriff’s Department, the Noble County Coroner’s Office, the Noble County Prosecutor’s Office, and the LaGrange Police Department are all involved in investigating this case.

A brief Press Conference is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ligonier Police Department, 301 S. Cavin Street, Ligonier. Prosecutor Blackman and Ligonier Police Chief Bryan Shearer will address the investigation.
