Ohio Foster Family shortage Not the case in Williams County

The state of Ohio is working hard to recruitment and train foster families to take in children, especially with the opioid epidemic in the Buckeye State. Despite the states shortage of foster families, officials say Williams County doesn’t currently have the same need for new families.

Reports indicate that 15,000 Ohio children were in foster care as of September 1st in 2017. That number is 1,000 more than in 2016, with just under 7,200 foster families available to care for them.

According to Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office, half of those children were placed in state care due to substance abuse issues among their parents.
