An Indiana conservative and a Massachusetts liberal are co-sponsoring legislation to increase government accountability.
Republican Senator Todd Young and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren introduced legislation to increase oversight of tax dollars spent by federal agencies.
The GAO-IG Act would require those agencies to provide annual reports to Congress on the status of implementing recommendations to save money.
The Government Accountability Office has over 8,000 open federal agency recommendations.
The bill would require agencies to provide a timeline for implementation or a justification for not implementing the recommendations as part of their annual budget justification.
