The “crown jewel” of sport facilities in the area is officially open to the public as Trine University unveiled its new $13.3 million MTI Center on Wednesday.

The MTI Center is new home to Trine University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, and the newest addition to the the Angola campus. Highlighted by a 3,500-seat arena, the pains of bleacher seating are “behind” and a thing of the past for Trine fans.

The facility also features a fitness center, a banquet room and bar, outdoor patio, offices and a training room. In addition the center also includes a six-lane bowling alley for Trine’s new bowling teams and an esports arena, as well as a pro shop for the Zollner Golf Course.

The MTI Center hosted its first game Wednesday night when the Trine Lady Thunder women’s basketball team faced off against Hope. The men's basketball team will play their first game in the new facility next week, on Wednesday, January 10th.

A number of the MTI Center's amenities will be available for public use. In addition, the center will also provide several new jobs for the Angola area.
